The Basic Principles For A Balanced Diet

Eating a balanced diet involves consuming natural foods. Instead of buying, for example, juices in the store, it is better to make your own juices at home, in order to avoid preservatives.

Eating a balanced diet can sometimes become a real headache. Not only because you have to analyze everything you eat, but also because you have to adopt new habits, which is not easy.

In this article, learn about the main characteristics of a balanced diet. Taking these characteristics into account guarantees the correct nutritional intake and the healthiest possible diet.

A balanced diet is rich in vegetables and fruits balanced diet

With the exception of some diets, notably the Mediterranean diet, the emphasis is not on eating fruit. However, these foods must be consumed regularly, and in large quantities.

It is recommended to eat 5 fruits and vegetables per day. Although it may seem complicated to you, it is necessary to make that effort, or at least, to get as close to that number as possible.

Fruits and vegetables are rich in vitamins, minerals, nutrients and antioxidants , which is why they are essential in a balanced diet. There are many varieties. You can choose your fruits and vegetables among the most classic, or taste the most exotic of them.

Say goodbye to empty calories

Empty calories are those that do not add anything. A whim from time to time is beneficial for your health, but it is essential not to go overboard, and to avoid consuming sugary drinks on a regular basis, such as cola-type refreshments and brick juices.

These drinks have a high sugar content , which is harmful to health when consumed regularly. In addition, these drinks are addictive. The ideal is to replace them with water.

The less processed the better balanced diet

Buying  chicken nuggets and eating chicken breast are two different things. The ideal is not to get used to consuming processed foods. This will let you know what you are eating.

Rather than buying processed foods, you can make your own variations at home. For example, instead of buying pre-made kibbles, you can make them yourself. Instead of buying a pizza, make it yourself.

Although it takes more time, the effort is worth the effort: you will know what you are eating, the food will be fresh, and you will consume far fewer additives.

Likewise, avoid industrial pastries. Although they are delicious, consuming them regularly goes against a balanced diet.

Other tips for having a balanced diet

We have seen what the basic principles of a balanced diet are. However, other tips should be taken into account.

Of course, a balanced diet is rich in fruits and vegetables, but also in meat, fish, olive oil …

It is also important to vary the foods. For example, don’t just eat apples, but include bananas, oranges… Variety is key.

To avoid feeling hungry, make sure you eat what your body needs.

The more colorful your dishes, the better. Dishes composed of foods of different colors are a sign of a balanced diet.

We also recommend that you include seeds in your diet, which, thanks to their properties, provide many benefits. You can, for example, include  chia  seeds or flax seeds in your salads or in yogurt.

As you can see, it is not that difficult to have a balanced diet. Nonetheless, we often succumb to the temptation to eat fast rather than put in the effort to prepare delicious meals on your own.

Let’s not fall into the mistake of consuming drinks labeled “zero sugar” or so-called “100% natural” juices.
